The plants at the triangle, seem to be doing well despite the hot weather. They will probably need watering into next year, but they are gaining a foothold.
Meantime, we are moving forward with some of our other capital improvement projects. The condition of the dock continues to be our top priority so Chris Hansen and the Buildings and Grounds committee have been lining up a contractor to make repairs to the pier and we are looking into the cost of replacing the dock itself. A great deal on a dock in Seattle slipped through our fingers, but we are confident that a replacement can be found, the cost of which will fit within our budget.

With the winter rains starting, we can breathe a sigh of relief that the 2008 fire season appears to be ending. It was good season for the Buckingham community. The Board of Directors new aggressive approach to weed abatement paid off. The compliance rate this year was near 98%, while the $4,075.00 cost of clearing delinquent lots at was down by nearly 20%. Meantime, the process to recover this money is on track.
As we look forward to next year, your board is searching for ways to deal with non-compliant lots that fall outside our jurisdiction and yet pose a threat to our community. In addition, Vice President Bob Olsen has undertaken a study of the costs involved in keeping the Rivera West Fire Station staffed 24 hours a day.
At our annual meeting, Brian Burnham of the Lake County Fire Department called Buckingham “a model community from a fire prevention standpoint.” Thank you for making this possible.

At the annual meeting, when I started my term, I talked about improving communication within our community. So, I am starting the President's Blog. At least once a month, I will offer some observation about life in Buckingham and some of the things that your board is considering. Eventually, I will try to create a way for all of you to post your views directly in this space but in the meantime, e-mail contact will have to suffice. What sort of things should we talk about in this space? Send your thoughts to pblog@mchsi.com. Keep them concise and we will post them.
Sometimes, we'll even post pictures or a video clip like we did after the June workparty. Those shots are still available right here: Work Party Pictures
That's it for now. Check in from time to time for our next posting.
