In 1875, Thomas H. Buckingham moved from San Francisco to Lake County where he purchased the land under the tip of Mt. Konocti. Mr. Buckingham owned the Buckingham Shoe Company. He built a cottage for his family and for visitors from the Bay Area. They held boat regattas, canoed in Little Borax Lake and held horse races around the lake in back of the cottage.
In 1956, a meeting was held at Rickey’s Restaurant in Stonestown, San Francisco, California. The purpose was to reactivate Buckingham Homes Association, Ltd., a non-profit corporation which was organized in 1930 by Buckingham Colonies, Limited. The purpose was to “promote the collective and individual interest of all persons owning lots in the subdivided areas of Buckingham Park, and to enforce the restrictions, conditions and covenants affecting the real property in Buckingham Park that were drawn up and recorded by Buckingham Colonies, Limited.”
Buckingham Homes Association, Ltd. remains dedicated to that statement and to maintaining the quality of life in Buckingham Park. It is as important today to the people who live here, as it was to Thomas Buckingham in 1875.
We welcome new homeowners, and appreciate the efforts of those who have helped make Buckingham a desirable place to reside.

Our beautiful Clubhouse, located on the shores of the lake, has gone through an incredible transformation over the past few years. Thanks to the Ladies Club, the back patio has been enclosed, and your key to the park grounds will allow access to that part of the building to enjoy lake views protected from the elements.
In the past few years, your Board has allocated funds for improvement of the grounds. Along with the beautiful landscaping and water feature, there have been unseen improvements-an irrigation system for the new plantings, improvement of the boat launch area and parking lot, as well as removal of the two dead trees, one in front and one in back of the Clubhouse.
The Clubhouse is available for rental to residents of Buckingham. There is a full kitchen with two ranges, two refrigerators, a microwave/convection oven as well as plenty of counter space for food preparation and serving. The hall seats 100 persons, and there are round tables and padded chairs for guests. Events have ranged from weddings to class reunions, as well as the activities the Ladies Club arranges throughout the year.
Rental is based on weekday or weekend rates. A half-day weekday rate (Monday-Thursday) is $125.00, providing the time doesn’t exceed five hours. A full-day weekday rate is $200.00. (Full day is midnight to midnight). Our weekend rate jumps a bit, from $150.00 for a half-day to $250.00 for a full-day. We require a $200.00 security/cleaning deposit which is refunded when the key and checklist is returned and all is in order.
We do not rent the Clubhouse on major holidays, giving all residents a chance to utilize the park grounds for their own activities.
If you are planning an event, feel free to come down and take a tour, or give me a call at the office to check date availability. We are booking now for 2012, so get your name on the list with a deposit if you are planning on renting the Clubhouse this year.
Buckingham Homes Association is governed by a 7-person Board of Directors, each elected for a three-year term. All Board positions are volunteer.

Board meetings are open to the public, and held the fourth Tuesday of the month, at 7 p.m., except when otherwise noted.
Our Architectural Control Committee is chaired by John Everett. The Committee is responsible for approving all construction and renovation within Buckingham Park, from fencing and painting to new homes.
The Buckingham Ladies’ Club contributes in numerous ways to the success of the Clubhouse. They are the social organizers of most of the functions held in Buckingham. Feel free to call with ideas or assistance.
Keys to the park grounds, which is open to Buckingham members only, can be purchased from the Office Manager. The cost is $50.00 which is a refundable deposit. Please abide by the rules posted on the front gate for park users and the launch gate for boaters.
